Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India (WBFI) is seekng crowd-funding to send the first ever Indian team to participate in the Under-23 Asia Oceania zonal level qualifying tournament for the World Championship in Bangkok next year.
"Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India (WBFI) is raising Rs 4,912,500 on Milaap.Org to send the first ever Indian team to participate in Under-23 Asia Oceania zonal level qualifying tournament for a world championship in Bangkok to be held in Jan.'17," WBFI said in a release.
Till now India participated in the Paralympics only in individual sports like swimming, athletics, archery etc. India has never participated in team games like Wheelchair Basketball.
The main reason for this is that even without any sponsorship or financial support individuals require less funding for their training. On the other hand, team training needs facilities, technical support, right infrastructure and more funds to participate.
The money raised will be used to import the specially designed high performance wheelchairs, training by an experienced and skilled IWBF coach to enhance the performance levels of the players and bring them at par to the international talent, to pay team participation fee and travel cost.
