Widow murdered, son thrown in well in land dispute

A widow was strangulated to death while her 10-year-old son was thrown into a well allegedly by her relatives over a land dispute in Palamau district, police said today.
Manmati Kunwar and her son Deepak were asleep last night in their Jawar village home under Nawdiha Bazar police station when the assailants barged into her house and strangulated her to death, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar said.
They also assaulted the boy, threw him in a nearby well and left presuming the boy to be dead.
However, the boy was rescued from the well alive this morning after the villagers informed the police, Kumar said.
Deepak, who was taken to police station by his maternal uncle, identified the attackers as his paternal uncle Jagdish Ram and his son Chotu who were absconding, Kumar said adding hunt was on to nab the culprits.
