Western India Football Association (WIFA) has conducted its first-ever workshop for the grassroots leaders in the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
The workshop, organised at the Cooperage football ground here yesterday, was for those who have undergone the certification course from FIFA-AIFF-FFA.
It was attended by 14 grassroots leaders from Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts, a WIFA release said today.
The course was headed by WIFA's recently appointed development officer for Maharashtra, Kundan Chandra, who was assisted by Arshad Hussain, AFC 'B' License holder and AFC 'D' License instructor.
The attendees communicated to WIFA that they have already started training programmes and have a good strength of 1,400 children who are trained on a regular basis.
"This is very heartening to know that we are already attaining such numbers. This is a positive sign for our efforts to promote football at the grassroots level," said WIFA Secretary Souter Vaz.
WIFA Chief Executive Henry Menezes said "We intend to recruit six officers who will monitor the development of the game in various regions of Maharashtra under the partnership with FFA-AIFF.
