A cloth merchant was found murdered at his residence in Modinagar area here, with police claiming to crack the case and saying that the plot to kill him was hatched by his wife and nephew.
30-year-old Tasleem, who owned a cloth shop in Muradnagar area, was found murdered at his house yesterday.
His wife Tavashum and Naushad were arrested today for hatching the conspiracy to kill Tasleem as he was against their illicit relationship, police said, claiming that both the accused have confessed to their involvement in crime.
"Tavashum mixed sedative in Tasleem's dinner before leaving for her parental home in Meerut, while Naushad stayed at home. After having food, Tasleem fell unconscious, following which Naushad brutally hit him on the head with an iron rod several times and fled from the spot," a senior police officer said.
The iron rod used in the crime has also been recovered, he said.
During investigation, police checked call records of Tavashum and Naushad's phones and found that there were frequent phone calls and messages between them.
"This brought them under the net of suspicion. Today, we strictly interrogated Naushad, who later broke down and confessed to his involvement in the murder. He told us that he and Tavashum hatched the plot," the officer said, adding that Tavashum was also arrested later.
Police said that Tasleem used to often object to his wife's illicit relationship with Naushad and this led to his murder.
