Wild card entrant Veeraraghavan, Ronit win in ITF tennis

Former national champions Vishnu Varadan and V M Ranjeet fell by the wayside losing their second round singles matches to Delhi's Ronit Singh Bisht and wild card entrant Vignesh Veeraraghavan respectively in the LMW ITF Men's Futures tennis tournament here today.
Ronit, ranked 1036, won in straight games of 6-2, 6-4 against Vishnu, while Vignesh dropped the first set but recovered in time to win the next two and the match against Ranjeet at 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Ronit was at his peak today putting up a strong display especially gaining in confidence and maintaining the momentum through first serve winners to beat Vishnu, who was pitted to win the match easily and ranked high at 535, he sent out ten aces in both the sets but Ronit showed more thrust in rallies to score points.
Ronit broke Vishnu in the first set to lead 5-2 with breaks in third and fifth games and then closed the set on serve. In the second, Vishnu was looking to get back his rhythm and in fact broke Ronit in the third. However, Ronit was not perturbed at all as he brilliantly wriggled out of tight situations. Thus, he was able to win four games in a row to lead 5-3 before winning set and the match at 6-4.
The match between Ranjeet (ranked 626) and Vignesh was looking to be a one-sided affair as the experienced Ranjeet meant business in the first set winning at 6-1 in quick time. But Vignesh, slowly but steadily brought about transformation in his game and went on to break Ranjeet in the third and then lead 4-3 before levelling the set score at 6-4.
Holding on to his superior display and maintaining the tempo, Vignesh went on to break Ranjeet in the third and fifth games to wrap up the decider and the match.
