Panic-stricken residents of Naduvattam, about 30 km from here, were perching themselves on the roof top of their houses during the nights to escape from the wild visitor.
The elephant has damaged six tiled-roofed houses and taken away rice, dal and other provisions and utensils with its trunk, police said today.
The elephant has damaged crops such as carrot, cabbage being cultivated in 15 acres of land, they said.
Forest officials have been informed about the elephant movement, police added.
