Wild Elk poached in an Odisha Reserve Forest

A wild elk was poached in a reserve forest allegedly by two persons, who were arrested from Mahulapalli under Buguda forest range in Ganjam district, a forest official said today.
Rabindra Nayak and Siba Nayak were arrested yesterday for electrocuting a wild elk, locally known as'Sambara', on Monday in the Kiriamba Reserve Forest, Forest Range Officer of Buguda P K Sahu said.
Forest guards also seized about 20 kg meat of the animal which was hunted by six persons. The other four fled.
"We have identified the other accused persons and search is on to nab them," Sahu said.
Forest officials had raided the houses of Siba and Rabindra and an old horn of a barking deer was seized from the house of Siba. Besides, they also seized some items used to hook electric from KV line, Sahu said.
