Babul Supriyo, the sole member in the Union Council of Ministers from West Bengal, today took over as Minister of State (MoS) for Urban Development, saying he would act as a bridge between the Centre and his state where there "has been absolute lack of governance".
The singer-turned-politician said there is a lot to do in the areas of housing and urban development and he would strive to realise the dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"There has been absolute lack of governance in the last so many years and with the present Trinamool Congress government, it is important that there is a bridge that is always created between the Centre and the state government where state governments don't come up, any state government as such doesn't come up with excuses that there is no coordination between the Centre and the state.
"So my work is going to bridge the gap between the Centre and the state and make people see the dreams that our Prime Minister and the cabinet is talking about," Supriyo said while taking charge as the minister.
He was asked as to how he saw his role as being the sole minister from West Bengal in the Union Government.
Asked whether he could be the face of BJP in the next West Bengal assembly elections, Supriyo said, "I have a face but whether that face is going to be the face for elections in West Bengal is something party high command has to decide."
He said he was ready to give 100 per cent to any role that is be it for 2016 elections, beyond or anything that comes as we approach 2016.
Earlier, while welcoming Supriyo, his senior in ministry Venkaiah Naidu said with his joining, the developmental and welfare initiatives of the department and the government will get further boost.
