Calling the Commission's decision to postpone the counting of votes as a "welcome pause", BJP said it can only be the first step towards "restoring democracy" in the state's "anarchist environment" and stuck to its demand of the countermanding of the entire elections to the civic bodies.
"This pause is welcome but it can only be the first step towards restoring democracy in an anarchist environment of West Bengal under TMC," BJP's West Bengal co-incharge, Sidharth Nath Singh alleged.
Taking a dig at the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC over its claim of having done well in the polls, he said, the party must understand it is "losers" and not winners who "cheat".
It feared that BJP's performance will give it a jolt if elections were held in a "free and fair" atmosphere, he said, accusing the party of preferring "bullet over ballot" to "rig" the elections.
The West Bengal State Election Commission had yesterday postponed counting of votes in the election to Bidhannagar and Asansol municipal corporations following allegations of large-scale violence.
