Emphasising that his government is committed to the equitable and inclusive development of all sections of the society, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the demand for declaring 'Kabir Jayanti' as a gazetted holiday would be given due consideration.
"My government has declared 'Kabir Jayanti', a Restricted Holiday and your demand to declare it a Gazetted Holiday would also be given due consideration," Omar said.
Speaking on the the occasion of birth anniversary of Sant Kabir, he said that his government has declared 'Kabir Jayanti' a restricted holiday, accepting the long cherished desire of Kabir Samaj, which has advocated it during the tenure of various governments.
The chief minister said that Sant Kabir in his simple and straight artistic expressions narrated the high values of humanities and truthfulness and stressed on the need to peep into once own-self to find personal faults and short comings rather than looking towards others to find wrongs in them.
"If all of us would look for our own short comings and correct these without searching faults in others, we could give rise to a healthy society," Omar said, adding that Sant Kabir's teachings for unity of all human beings and creeds and his equal love for the followers of all faiths has made him adorable, respectful and loveable for all.
He emphasised that all religions want to nurture the spirit of humanism in mankind.
