JD(U) MLA Shoaib Iqbal, who had threatened to withdraw support from the AAP government over its senior member Kumar Vishwas's comment, today took a U turn and said he will continue to support the government for the next five years.
"I spoke to (Arvind) Kejriwal bhai today and he has assured that Kumar Vishwas will not repeat such things that will hurt the religious sentiments of people.
"I was convinced with it and we will continue to support the government for next five years," Iqbal told PTI.
Iqbal had threatened to withdraw support to government over a video clip in which Vishwas was reportedly seen making comments about a religious event.
"What he has said is very offensive...The people of the country, especially Muslims, are outraged over what has been said in the video clip. I want Vishwas to publicly apologise for it," Iqbal said.
Later in the day, AAP leader Kumar Vishwas, who is also a member of the national executive, apologised for his comments.
Asked about Iqbal's threat to withdraw support from AAP, Vishwas said, "As far as his support is concerned, it is up to him, it is his own prerogative."
He said, "I had said this sometime in 2005, there was no controversy till today. But it surfaced first time in 2013. BJP edited it and uploaded the 48-second clip on their official handle.
