"The condition of Congress is very bad and in order to revive it, I will form a new party which will contest the 2018 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh by projecting (Kamal) Nath as the Chief Minister," Aslam told reporters here.
He claimed he has already spoken to Nath in this regard.
Though Nath could not be reached for his comments on the issue, his close aide told PTI, "No question arises of forming a new party by leaving the Congress."
He said that in the recent Bihar elections, the grand alliance of JD(U), RJD and Congress had set a good example.
"This grand alliance not only defeated pro-Muslim Asaduddin Owaisi's party but also BJP President's Amit Shah's Hindu-oriented politics in its own manner. The credentials of this new party will be secular," the former hockey Olympian said.
Answering a question, he said, "The condition of Congress in Madhya Pradesh is very bad and to revive it even big leaders are desperate. Therefore, we will not wait. The Assembly polls are due in 2018 and we have to make preparations for it right now.
