Prime Minister Singh today arrived here on a two-day visit for the Summit of the seven-nation grouping Bay Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
BIMSTEC is an expression of India's Look East Policy of the 1990s, coinciding with Thailand's Look West Policy.
The seven members - India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Bhutan and Nepal - bring together over 20 per cent of the world population, which is about 1.5 billion, and a GDP of over USD 2.5 trillion.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Singh also had a separate meeting with his new Nepali counterpart Sushil Koirala.
Premier Koirala was keen that Prime Minister Singh visit Nepal at the earliest, Khurshid said.
Singh told Koirala that it may be difficult for a visit by him at this juncture as India was preparing for general elections and suggested that the Nepalese leader could visit India.
During the talks, Singh assured Koirala that India will not be found wanting in its support for democracy in Nepal.
