Will take all steps to check dengue: Punjab Health Minister

Punjab government will take all preventive measures to control dengue, including providing facilities of free of cost collection of blood samples and their testing for the disease, state Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani said today.
"The department will take all preventive measures to control vector-borne diseases. The doctors have been sensitised to tackle the occurrence of dengue in the state," Jayani said in a release here.
Jayani said diagnostic tests of suspected dengue cases in the laboratories of the government hospitals would be done free of cost and blood samples would also be collected free of cost.
As compared to 2,514 number of dengue cases reported last year, 214 cases have come to light so far this fiscal, he said.
The Minister directed all officials concerned to reinforce their efforts for dengue control in Punjab. Special dengue wards at every district and sub-divisional levels have been thoroughly covered with mosquito nets, he said.
He also asked the elected representatives to actively participate in public awareness activities in their respective areas and stressed on initiating community orientation activities to raise awareness among people.
The Health Minister said mosquito breeding checkers have been employed in 40 towns of Punjab for the year 2014-15.
Besides, insecticides for prevention and control of mosquito breeding have been procured and would be distributed in all districts shortly.
