Terming the devastating floods in Jammu and Kashmir as a "huge tragedy," Punjab Government today said it is willing to help the affected people in every possible way.
"The whole country feels the pain of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Punjab Government will help the state in every possible way. There will be no disparity on the basis of caste, creed or religion in relief distribution," Punjab Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikramjeet Singh Majithia told reporters here.
The state minister inaugurated a relief distribution camp at a Gurduwara in Baghat Barzulla area of the city.
Majithia said that his state government went out of the way to help the flood affected people and was willing to help them in best possible way.
"Government has its limitations but we have gone beyond the call of duty and we are willing to help people in maximum possible way. The people of Punjab feel the pain of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," he said, adding the Punjab Government was in constant touch with the state government here to help the people.
"Our Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal told us to fully support the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We started 'langar' (community kitchens) organised by Shiromani Gurduwara Parbandhak Committee and are in constant touch with the J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah," Majithia said.
He said today's relief material was sent from like-minded individuals like educationists, businessmen and philanthropists. "Demands are coming from other areas and I will take them up with the (Punjab) government," he said.
The relief, in 15 trucks, comprised of medicines, flour, rice, blankets, mineral water, pulses and snacks. Majithia appealed the people of the country to contribute as much as possible to overcome the loss caused by this "huge tragedy".
