Nearly two lakh people have been affected due to the "non-payment" of pensions and if the dependents of the pensioners are included the number comes around 10 lakh, Maken claimed.
The three municipal corporations-- South, North and East Delhi Municipal Corporations- have been facing problems in paying pensions to nearly 2 lakh of pensioners for months due to financial reasons.
In the run up to the municipal corporation elections in April, Delhi Congress has sharpened attack on ruling BJP in the civic bodies accusing it of "corruption" and also over "lack" of revenue generation.
"We have the experience, willingness and plans to make the MCDs self-reliant," he said.
When Congress was in power in Delhi, it did not allow such a situation to arise as the pensioners and sanitation workers were paid on time, he claimed.
