A woman and her three daughters allegedly committed suicide here after her husband was taken into custody by police in connection with a theft case, police said today.
Jeya (42) and her daughters aged 21, 17 and nine were found hanging this morning in their house in Alwarthirunagar, they said.
Neighbours who grew suspicious as the house remained closed till late this morning alerted the police, who broke open the main door and found the woman and her three daughters dead.
They took the extreme step after they came to know that their family head Tamilselvan was allegedly linked to the theft case, police said.
Police had yesterday taken into custody Tamilselvan in connection with the theft of gold jewels from a gold loan company in Mumbai allegedly by one of its employees Sugirtharaja, hailing from Alwarthirunagar.
Tamilselvan was picked up based on interrogation of Sugirtharaja and his wife Revathy, who told them that she had given the stolen jewels to Tamilselvan, police said.
