A woman has accused her live-in partner of allegedly beating her and keeping her confined for over a month when she tried to leave for her parents' home after a fight with him, the police said today.
The incident was reported from north Delhi's Kashmere Gate yesterday.
The woman alleged that on August 18, when she tried to leave for her mother's home, her partner thrashed her, burnt her clothes and even chopped off her hair, a senior police officer said.
The officer added that the woman was then kept locked in her house for over a month and after she managed to escape, she approached the police.
Around eight years ago, she met one Sanjeev and fell in love with him. She left her husband, who she got married to in 2001, and her three children and started living with Sanjeev, the police said.
She has a son from Sanjeev. She alleged that Sanjeev was not agreeing on marrying her so she decided to leave his house, they said.
However, he thrashed her and locked her in the house. After almost a month, she managed to escape and filed a police complaint.
Police have registered a case and are probing the matter. Her partner is absconding.
