Woman alleges torture by police, HC seeks reply from chief cop
Press Trust of India New Delhi The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the city police Commissioner on a woman's plea alleging she and her daughter were tortured in a police station here by the SHO to force her to leave the house where she is a tenant.
She was being forced by the SHO Farsh Bazar in Sahadara to leave her rented premises at the instance of the previous owner of the house who has an ongoing property dispute with the present owner, her landlord, the woman has alleged in her plea.
Issuing a notice to the police chief, the SHO Farsh Bazar in Sahadara, Justice V Kameswar sought their responses by January 3, 2014 on the plea filed by one Shyama Devi from Viswash Nagar.
On December 18, the SHO and the previous owner of the premises had come to her house. She and her 24 year-old daughter were forcibly taken to the police station where they were "physically tortured and beaten", as per the plea filed through Sugrive Dubey.
"Number of PCR calls were made but none came to protect the life of the petitioner and her daughter when both of them were being tortured and beaten in the police station," the plea said and sought an inquiry either by " Crime branch or CBI" into the episode.
The woman also sought a direction to the Police Commissioner to take action against the SHO.
"The court may kindly pass necessary order to respondent 1 (Commissioner) to take action against the SHO for taking the lady petitioner and her daughter to the police station and detaining her upto 1am in the PS..," the plea said.
