A police party, which was on a combing operation in the forest area near Somlagadda in Tadavai mandal under Pasara police station limits of Warangal, sighted a group of around ten ultras this morning and asked them to surrender, police said.
However, the group, which was later identified as KKW (Karimnagar-Khammam-Warangal) committee, opened fire on police party and following retaliation two members of the group were killed, while the remaining escaped from the spot, they said.
Police seized one-carbine and a .303 weapon besides six kit-bags from the spot.
Although police strongly suspect that the remaining ultras might have fled to bordering Karimnagar district, police in all the neighbouring districts of Warangal have been alerted, he said.
Last Saturday there was an incident of burning of an earth-excavator vehicle under Mulung Sub-Division of Warangal and police parties were moving in these areas when they noticed the ultras this morning, Mallareddy said.
