Woman and daughter dies in fire

A tribal woman and her two-year-old daughter were charred to death, while her husband received severe burn in a fire at their house in Mayurbhanj district, police said today.
The fire broke out in the thatched house of Kailash Naik (33), a daily wage earner, at Akhadasahi village under Bangiriposi block late last night, said Reena Benera, Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Bangiriposi police station.
While Naik's wife Bina (26) was burnt alive on the spot, their daughter Chumuki (2) was rushed to hospital in Baripada where she succumbed to injuries during treatment early this morning, the IIC said.
Naik was undergoing treatment at the hospital here and his condition was stated to be critical, police said adding two other children of Naik escaped unhurt.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, police said adding Rs 15,000 has been provided to the bereaved family from the Red Cross, while the district administration gave Rs 4,000 for cremation of the deceased.
