Woman arrested for cheating investors of Rs 11 lakh

: A woman was arrested today at nearby Tirupur on charges of cheating 100 investors of Rs 11 lakh, without paying them money due for the monthly chit, police said.
They said the woman and her husband were running the chit fund on monthly basis on the promise of giving high interest and had collected amounts ranging from between Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 from nearly 100 persons, police said.
The couple had been on the run since early this month after a man lodged a complaint, police said, adding the woman was arrested today and a hunt was on to nab her husband.

Meanwhile, a group of people today lodged a complaint with city police commissioner alleging that they had been cheated by a woman running a chit fund in Goundanpalayam.
Investigations were on, police added.
