42-year-old Govindaraj Amutha, a native of Chennai, was apprehended at the airport on Friday.

Customs officials interrogated the passenger and examined her baggage and she was found carrying Ketamine, a banned substance under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, an official release issued today said.

"The recovered substance in the form of crystal powder substance weighed 9.7 kgs and a case was booked", it said.

The international market value of the seized goods is more than Rs one crore, customs officials said.

Amutha was arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, the release said.

Ketamine is used as a general anaesthetic to prevent pain and discomfort during certain medical tests or procedures or minor surgery. However, the substance is misused by many party revelers as drug.
