Additional sessions judge Narinder Kumar sentenced Kiran and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on her for possessing 270 gm of heroin in violation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Kiran's plea for leniency on the ground that she has a daughter,a widoweddaughterinlaw and granddaughters to take care of and that one of her sons was murdered, was declined by the court.
"Having regard to the commercial quantity of heroin recovered from the convict, I sentence her to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and to pay fine of Rs 1 lakh," the court said.
The court rejected her plea of implication, tampering of case property and that she was picked up from her house by the police when it had come to enquire about her son, who was subsequently murdered.
The police told the court that Kiran was apprehended by a raiding party on the basis of secret information received at the narcotics cell office that a woman by the name of Kiran, who used to sell narcotics at her house here, was to bring the contraband at Motia Khan here.
