A 60-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death today in Korea district of Chhattisgarh allegedly by her nephew, who suspected her to be practising black magic, police said.
The accused - Shiv Prakash Paikra (29) surrendered before police after murdering his aunt Manki Bai with a stick on the outskirts of village Sonhat, Korea Superintendent of Police B S Dhruv told PTI.
As per the statement given by the accused, his wife was blessed with a baby on August 17, whose condition was not well since his birth.
"The child was discharged from a hospital in Ambikapur on August 30 after a brief treatment and was brought home. However, the infant's health deteriorated and he died the next day," Dhruv said.
Paikra suspected that his child died due to the witchcraft practised by his aunt, the SP said.
"Ever since the death of his child, the accused was looking for an opportunity to eliminate the woman," Dhruv said.
