A woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 74,620 from the famous Saibaba shrine at Shirdi in Maharashtra.
The accused was identified as Vidya Saxena (25), hailing from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh.
Devotees can volunteer for various tasks in the temple including cash-counting.
Saxena had volunteered for counting the cash in the donation box Tuesday morning, said deputy superintendent of police Anand Bhoite, the chief of security at the temple.
She allegedly hid a few bundles of notes in her leggings and tried to slip out.
However, a woman security guard frisked her and recovered the money, he said.
Saxena was arrested under IPC section 379 (theft), said inspector Arvind Mane, adding that further probe was on.
