Additional Sessions Judge V V Virkar sentenced Thane's Wada taluka residents Suman Kisan Wagh (43) and her daughter Chimi Dileep Tumde (29) to three-year RI and also fined them Rs 5,000 each after they were found guilty under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
Additional Public Prosecutor Ashok Khamkar told the court that labourer Kisan Nana Wagh (48), after the death of his first wife, had married Suman.
Chimi was married to a man in Bhiwandi, but later her husband left her. She then came to live with Kisan and Suman.
According to prosecution, Chimi used to frequently invite men to the house to which her step-father Kisan objected.

However, Suman and Chimi disapproved of the objections raised by Kisan.
On the night of November 7, 2013, when Kisan was sitting in the house, the woman-daughter duo poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. Later, the duo fled from there.
The victim sustained severe burns and kept lying in that state in the house till next morning when a passer-by helped him reach the hospital where he received treatment.
The prosecution, with the help of Investigating Officer API Uddhav Khade and court policeman R N Shaikh, proved beyond doubt that the two accused had set him on fire.
Hence, the judge pronounced both the women guilty and sentenced them to 3-year RI.
