According to an NHRC statement, the rights body has issued notices to Andhra Pradesh DGP and SP, Guntur after taking suo-motu cognisance of a media report that B Suneela was pushed in front of a speeding lorry by hooligans when she tried to save her daughter from their clutches.
The victim, aged 45 years, and her daughter - a BTech student - were returning home after shopping around 09:00 PM on April 8, 2013 when a group of drunken men accosted them at Gandhi Chowk, Tenali in Guntur district.
The commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of dignity of women as well as their safety at public places.
