A woman from the city is all set to be the first Indian to serve as the chief medical officer for a Formula One race when the event is held this weekend at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, according to officials at a private hospital here.
Dr Priyadarshini Pal Singh of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals has been designated as the Chief Medical Officer for the 2013 Formula One Indian Grand Prix which is to be held between October 25 and 27.
Singh is the head of the Accident and Emergency department at the said hospital.
"We have conducted tailor-made drills and practice sessions simulating the fast-paced nature of F1 racing. The simulations included extrications in case of an accident, ambulance transfer and air evacuation drills.
"During the event, four medical intervention vehicles, seven ambulances and two standby helicopters along with a specialist team of doctors will be stationed at the medical centre," she said.
Singh underwent rigorous training for the past two years at the Singapore Grand Prix and also participated at seminars and specialist-training courses overseas to prepare for her upcoming role.
In 2012, she was selected as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the event in Greater Noida prior to being nominated as its Chief Medical Officer for the 2013 edition.
The three-day F1 event is being organised by Jaypee Sports International (JPSI).
