Woman dupes cloth merchant of Rs 15 lakh

A cheating case has been registered against a woman for allegedly duping a cloth merchant of Rs 15 lakh by posing as a bank employee.
In the police complaint, cloth merchant Sham Sundar Gandhi alleged that the woman, Rupinder Kaur (25) had approached him on December 30 last year, claiming that she was an employee of a private bank.
She told him that he could get a Gold Card just for Rs 199 through which he can make purchase of upto Rs one lakh.
Gandhi gave her a cheque of Rs 199 for availing the scheme.
However, Rupinder after allegedly changing figures on the cheque, got transferred Rs 14.80 lakh into her account in a nationalised bank branch in Khanna on January 15, police said.
The merchant came to know about the fraud when a bank official informed him about the transaction.
The woman is at large and a search is on the nab her, police said.
