A 55-year-old woman was found dead in her house with her hands and legs tied to a cot in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district, police said on Tuesday.
"The post mortem has revealed that the woman was smothered. The motive behind the is being probed," Circle Officer, Bah, Ritesh Kumar said.
The incident took place in Rupura village.
Police said the woman was found gagged and hands and legs tied to the cot on which she had slept the night before.
The police said the woman, a widow, had gone to attend a religious programme and returned later in the evening with an unknown man. He was invited to stay in the house for the night, they said.
However, when the son went to check on his mother the next morning, he found her dead on the cot. The man had also disappeared, they said.
The body has been sent for postmortem and the matter is being .
