After her release, Rahila was handed over to Pakistan authorities at Joint Check Post of Indo-Pak Attari/Wagah border, officials said.

She crossed over to Pakistan on the basis of 'Emergency Travel Certificate' issued by the Delhi based Pakistani High Commission.

Rahila, a Karachi resident, blamed her husband Abjul for her miseries, alleging that he was "greedy", and was after her property and money.

She alleged that Abjul wanted to get rid of her and was administering slow dose of drug in her routine food.

After some time Rahila's mental health "deteriorated" and her husband managed to prepare a passport for her and boarded her on a Bangladeshi flight, she claimed.

"On reaching Bangladesh, I started to gain my senses and narrated my story to the authorities at Bangladesh, which suggested me to cross over the border to India where I would be able to return to Pakistan through the Attari border," she said.

She claimed, "I crossed the border to India from Bangladesh illegally and managed to reach Amritsar Attari railway station where I was arrested while attempting to board the Samjautha train to Pakistan."

Amritsar Central jail Deputy Superintendent Kulwant Singh Sidhu said Rahila was arrested at Attari Railway Station in 2008 under section of 3/34/20 of Indian Passport Act and 14 Foreign Act, while she was trying to cross over to Pakistan in the Samjautha express without mandatory travel documents including valid passport and visa to Pakistan.

Sidhu said that during the trial Rahila was sentenced for six months which was completed in 2009 thereafter Jail Authority informed the Indian Home Ministry which further asked the Pakistan High Commission to extend her councilor access.
