Woman gets 3 yrs in jail for beating minor girl to death

A woman here has been sentenced to three years in jail by a local court for beating to death a 12-year-old girl who she claimed had stolen her wheat.
The convicted woman, by the name of Mahabiri, was also asked to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 as the sentence in the case was passed yesterday by Additional District Sessions Judge Rajbir Singh.
The court also ordered her to pay Rs 5,000 to the victim's family as compensation.
According to the prosecution, the child, Soni, was beaten to death for allegedly stealing wheat at Godhna village of the district on March 6, 2014.

A case was registered against Mahabiri and her brother-in- law, Dhir Singh, in this connection. However, Singh died during the pendency of the case.
