A session court here awarded life imprisonment to a woman for killing her sister-in-law and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 against her.
District and Session judge Nirender Kaur, while pronouncing the judgement yesterday, sentenced Pavitra Bai to life imprisonment for killing her sister-in-law Reena (17) by strangulating her on April 9 last year.
Public Prosecutor Omprakash Mishra said today that at the time of incident, Reena was alone in the house and taking advantage of the situation, Pavitra Bai strangulated her to death as the two had sour relations.
A case under section 302 was registered against Pavitra Bai and one Ram Bharose in this regard by police. The post-mortem report of the deceased confirmed death due to strangulation.
However, Bharose was acquitted by the court on ground of insufficient evidence against him.
On the basis of witness statement and evidence submitted by police, the court found Pavitra guilty and awarded life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on her, Mishra added.
