A dalit woman has lodged an FIR against seven persons for harassing her and family members for protesting her husband's conversion to Islam at Rampur Khurd in Sitamarhi district, police said today.
Yashoda Devi lodged the FIR against seven persons, including a former mukhia (village head) Jiaur Rahman, under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act charging them with harassing her and other family members for protesting against conversion of her husband Ramkishore Ram to Islam recently, SP Nawal Kishore Singh said.
The complainant has also sought protection to her and other family members expressing fear for their lives from the perpetrators who have been threatening them with dire consequences and torch their house, Singh said.
A probe was on in the matter and security had been provided to the aggrieved family, he said.
In addition to lodging an FIR with the Pupri police station, the woman had told police that she was away to her maternal home two weeks ago when she heard about her husband's conversion to Islam and returned to confront her husband about problems arising in the family post his conversion to another religion.
Ram had asked her and other family members to convert too, but she refused and asked him to live separately.
She demanded financial support to her family from her husband even after his conversion which he not only declined, but brought the ex-mukhia and others to intimidate her, a police officer at Pupri police station said.
