Woman held for duping jeweller

A 32-year-old woman was arrested here today for allegedly duping a jeweller of over Rs 40 lakh, police said today.
Madhu Singh, a resident of old Mahavir Nagar, was arrested by Tilak Nagar police after a jeweller Ashok Kumar reported that the lady had bought gold ornaments worth Rs 40,10,178 at different times from October last year till now, for which she gave him three cheques payable at SBI, Tilak Nagar branch.
"When the complainant deposited all the above three cheques in his account for clearance, they were sent back to him with noting of 'Stop payment'. When the complainant approached the lady, she threatened him with implicating him in false cases," said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Ranganathan.
During Madhu's interrogation, it has also come to notice that she had cheated some other shopowners also with the same modus operandi.
