Woman held for flicking purse in 5 star hotel

A woman was today arrested for allegedly stealing a purse during an exhibition at a five star hotel in the southern part of the city, police said.
Ranu Chowdhury was arrested for allegedly stealing a purse containing Rs 30,000 and some documents, during an exhibition at the banquet hall 'Crystal Room' of Taj Bengal yesterday, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
"The incident happened at around 2 pm yesterday when the purse of a visitor went missing. Based on the allegations of the owner, Chowdhury was first detained by the hotel authorities and a case was lodged at the Alipore Police Station," he said.

The purse, as well as Rs 30,000 and the documents, were recovered from the possession of the accused, he added.
