A woman was arrested today in connection with the murder of her 62-year-old retired banker husband, along with her sister and the latter's friend, police said.
Prakash Wankhede, who retired from a nationalised bank, had gone 'missing' from suburban Kandivli last year.
"Asha Wankhede, along with her sister Vandana Thorve and her friend Nilesh Supekar, was arrested by the Malvani police today on the charge of murdering her husband Prakash Wankhede," said Vikram Deshmane, DCP (Zone X).
Interestingly, Asha herself had lodged a complaint at Charkop police station about her husband going 'missing' immediately after he left their home.
During investigation, the police found out that no such person has gone missing, following which they focused their probe on the murder angle.
According to the officer, they started doubting Asha after she failed to satisfactorily answer their questions.

During the probe, police found that an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was registered at Parner police station in Ahmednagar last year.
Police collected some technical evidences regarding Wankhede's death and sent them to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), he said, adding that it was subsequently revealed that the decomposed body found in Parner was that of Wankhede.
During her questioning, Asha has "confessed to" murdering her husband with the help of Thorve and Supekar, the officer said.
On the motive behind the murder, the officer said Asha was fed up with her husband's accusations that she was having an extramarital affair.
