A woman today delivered a baby inside an ambulance after a civil hospital in the district referred her to another institution, saying it had no woman doctor.
The woman, who was in the late stages of pregnancy, was admitted to the local government hospital in Safidon village in the morning as she went through contraction. After the checkup, she was given reference to the Jind Civil Hospital which is at least 36 kilometres away.
The family of the woman allege negligence and misbehaviour on the part of the hospital nurses and officials.
"They should not have referred my wife to another hospital when they knew she was in the late pregnancy stage," her husband, Kuldeep said.
"They admitted my wife in the morning and after sometimes gave another hospital's name where she could deliver the child. We even had to wait for a while as there was a shortage of ambulances," he said.
Upon getting the ambulance, the woman delivered the baby on the way to the hospital in Jind.

The Saifon hospital staff claim that the woman was referred as her condition was serious. Also, they there were no female doctor in the hospital and basic amenities required for delivery were not sufficient.
"We came across complications after the check up. We referred her to the other hospital because of the absence of female doctor and other amenities," the nurse said.
"The checkup revealed that the woman was in serious condition because of which she was referred further. Our ambulances were attending other patients due to which it was unavailable at the time," the doctor of the hospital, Dipesh Goyal said.
