Woman killed, three injured in elephant attack

A 55-year old woman was killed and three others were injured when a small herd of elephants ran amok near Mettupalayam in the district today, police said.
The herd comprising three elephants was on the move in Maruthur-Nellithurai area in Western Ghats and started chasing the villagers this morning.
In the melee, Ranguthai was trampled to death and three sustained minor injuries, police said.
Hearing about the incident, forest officials rushed to the spot and were taking efforts to drive away the animals back into the jungles, they said.
