The mishap took place on Kalabadia-Bangiriposi road when the tractor hit the women labourers from behind as they were on their way to their daily work, theys said.
The deceased was identified as Ashamani Pradhan (63) of Golamundhakata village. The five injured labourers were admitted to the district headquarter hospital in Baripada in critical condition, they said.
The mishap evoked protest with irate villagers resorting to road blockade for over one hour disrupting vehicular traffic. Bangiriposi OIC Padmalaya Sahu rushed to the site and held deliberation with the protesters who demanded compensation for the family of the victim.
