The Delhi High Court has designated six lawyers, including one woman lawyer, as senior advocates.
Among the six lawyers designated as senior advocates are former Bar Council of India Chairman K K Manan, Mohit Mathur, ex-Secretary of Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA), Vivek Sood, Balbir Singh, Mukul Talwar and Rekha Palli.
"I feel immensely proud, happy and honoured that the bench has recognised me and judged my performance positively," Manan said.
Manan, a noted criminal lawyer, has been appearing in several high profile cases in trial courts and High Court. He has also held various posts in New Delhi Bar Association and other lawyers' associations.
Mathur, a graduate from St Stephens' College obtained his law degree from Delhi University's Campus Law Centre. He initially worked with then Attorney General of India G Ramaswamy.
He said he was thrilled that the bench has recognised his efforts. "I am thankful to the bench for conferring this honour on me. I have been the third generation lawyer in my family in the criminal side. My father is also designated senior advocate practising in Delhi High Court," he said.
Palli, the only woman advocate among the six conferred with the senior's gown, graduated in law from Campus Law Centre of Delhi University and enrolled with the Bar in 1986.
"I count this honour of my designation as senior advocate by the bench as a really big achievement for me. I am honoured because especially as a lady lawyer, I have made my mark. I have worked with a team of young women advocates and hope this honour motivates them," she said.
