A woman Maoist, allegedly involved in several offences and carrying a reward of Rs two lakh on her head, surrendered in Koraput district of Odisha, police said today.
The ultra, who surrendered before police yesterday was identified as Jambo Mandingi (25) alias Walsi of Rajengipadar village under Narayanpatna police station jurisdiction.
The woman told the police that she was inspired by the ideology of Maoists but got disillusioned after realising that they have digressed from it. They extort money from traders, contractors and kill innocent people on charges of being police informers, police said quoting her.
Therefore, Mandingi decided to give uparms and return to the mainstream, said a police officer.
Police said Mandingi had joined the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in 2009 and was working for its Koraput-Srikakulam division. "She underwent arms training in Sudishi forest of Narayanpatna and was an expert in use of guns, including LMG and Insas. She is skilled in making landmines and master of guerrilla warfare," said SP (Koraput) Awinash Kumar.
"She was involved in various offensives and was moving with Maoist leader Aruna. Her case has been recommended for approval for rehabilitation under the state government's surrender policy for Maoists," he added.
At least 10 Maoists, including Madingi, have surrendered in Koraput in past two weeks, sources said.
