The Madras High Court has issued notice to the External Affairs Ministry on a woman's plea seeking a direction to authorities to trace her husband, who has been reported missing in Malaysia since October 12, 2012.
Justice B Rajendran before whom the petition filed by Theivanai came up for hearing, ordered notice, returnable by two weeks, to the External Affairs Ministry.
The petitioner contended that her husband Nallathambi used to frequently visit Malaysia to meet his friend Syed Mohamed, who was running a hotel business there, stay there for some time and return to India.
On October 12, 2012 while her husband was in Malaysia Airport, he went missing along with his friend.
Mohamed's wife had immediately lodged a missing persons complaint with the Malaysian Embassy in this regard, the petitioner said.
She further submitted that her husband had not been traced till date and his whereabouts were not known to her. Though she had sent several representations to the Malaysian Embassy, Indian Embassy and External Affairs Ministry, there was no response.
The woman said she had lodged a complaint with the authorities on June 10. But there was no action till date. Hence she filed the present petition, she added.
The couple had got married on July 13 1998 and have a boy.
