A woman rebel, believed to be a close aide of senior Naxal leader Paparao, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district today, police said.
Kosi Sodhi, the woman, was a member of Pamed area committee of Naxals, they said.
Sodhi was killed in a gun-battle with the Special Task Force of police in a forest under the Pamed police station limits, Special Director General of Police (anti-Naxal operations) D M Awasthi told PTI.
The area is around 500 km away from Raipur.
Security forces had been sent to the area after receiving information about Naxals' movement there, Awasthi said.
The encounter took place in Jarampalli forests.

Sodhi's colleagues escaped into the core area of the forest when the security personnels closed in, he said.
During the subsequent search, police found Sodhi's body. A firearm was also recovered.
Sodhi was a trusted associate of Paparao, a top member of South Bastar Division of Naxlals, Awasthi added.
Paparao has masterminded several deadly attacks on security forces including the Tadmetla massacre of 2010 that claimed the lives of 76 security personnels, police sources said.
