Sirlatha alias Susmitha, the accused, had created a fake profile on a matrimonial website, police said.
The victim, looking for a bride, came upon the profile in January and finding it suitable, contacted Sirlatha.
She responded positively and the two began to communicate. She agreed to meet him in February.
A few days later, the victim got a call from Sirlatha who said she had lost her purse containing passport, debit cards, credit cards and Rs 40,000. She asked him for money, promising to repay after they met.
But afterwards the accused stopped taking his calls.
After he filed the complaint, police arrested Sirlatha from Bengaluru yesterday on the charge of cheating. Further probe is on.
