Woman pushed off train:NHRC seeks report from Ghaziabad Police

NHRC today sought reports from Ghaziabad Police and Government Railway Police (GRP) about an incident in which a woman died and her infant daughter was seriously injured after being allegedly pushed off a train near Link Road in Ghaziabad.
Taking suo motu cognizance of a media report about the incident, the rights panel has issued notices seeking a report within four weeks in this connection from SSP, Ghaziabad and SSP, Government Railway Police (GRP), Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, an NHRC statement said today.
According to the media report, the incident took place on May 13. Link Road police reached the spot after it received information about the incident.
The woman was rushed to a local hospital from where she was referred to the GTB Hospital in Delhi, where she was declared dead. Her baby is reported to be critical. Police is yet to establish the reason behind the woman's fall, the statement said.
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights and safety of women travelling in trains.
