Leelavathy was arrested on the orders of the Sivaganga District Collector Malarvizhi, police said.
The Collector, who held a review meeting to discuss ways and means of preventing women dying during pregnancy, summoned Leelavathy who treated 35-year-old Karupayee of Puliangudi village.
Karupayee was five months pregnant.
The quack said the woman wanted an abortion and she had given her medicines for it.
The woman, however, started bleeding profusely and died of heavy infection in the uterus, police said.
The collector then ordered police to arrest her. She has been remanded to judicial custody.
