Police have claimed to have solved the case of murder of a middle-aged woman whose body was found at a sea shore here, by arresting the killer.
The body of a 40-year-old woman, later identified as Sumitra Sarjuprasad, originally from Bihar who lived in Boisar area of the district, was found with stab wounds on the sea shore at Chinchani-Burujpada on December 8, Wangaon police station inspector AP Fegde said.
A murder case was then registered and the body was sent for postmortem.
After a detailed investigation, police last night nabbed the alleged killer, Naresh Yadav (35), a labour supervisor who also lived in the same locality.
The deceased and the accused allegedly had illicit relations, he said adding that Yadav killed the woman and then dumped the body by the sea side.
Offences have been registered against the accused under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the IPC, police said adding that further probe into the case was on.
