The sessions court here today rejected the anticipatory bail application of a Central Railway official, accused of abetting suicide of a woman.
Anita Patel (22), railway ticket booking agent, set herself on fire at a toilet inside the Divisional Railway Manager's office at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus here on December 26, 2013.
Police filed a case of abetment of suicide against William Kerry, in-charge of Central Railway's 'Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevak' scheme, as Patel's parents named him in their complaint.
According to police, the probe indicated that Patel was highly disturbed as she could not begin her work under Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevak scheme due to administrative reasons, and she wanted a refund of Rs 40,000 which she had paid to the railways.
Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks are authorised to sell long-distance train tickets. Patel was selected under the scheme two years ago, paid fees and completed other formalities. For the past few months, she had been requesting railway authorities to refund her deposit, since she wanted to drop out.
According to police, she wrote to Kerry several times, but in vain. In one of the letters she had said that she was fed up with the delay.
